The Order
Hello, Everyone (~_~)
It's been a long time since my second entry! Yeah, been very busy lately with my new job.
I'm inspired to share what happened here at work 30 minutes ago: I got a phone from my boss. He asked me if the laptop and projector (I'll use them for my presentation tomorrow in Bakersfield) is already in the office.
"Not yet", I replied.
He continued, "because I am leaving for a meeting in San Diego. BTW, make me a contract ... blah... blah .... blah."
When do you need this, Doc?.
He said, "Right now, I am leaving the house (he lives in Palos Verdes and the office is in Hawthorne) right now?".
WHAT? You want me to write a contract right now? I don't even have at least a model to pattern PLUS contracts are legal documents. I have to be careful with my words that they are not only politically correct but LEGALly right.
Well, thanks to the internet. After 10 minutes, he arrived and I gave him the draft. I don't even know the name of the other party!
After reading " Blah... blah... herein refered to as 'company' and _________ refered to as 'exempt employee'", he asked what is Exempt?
Oh, my! I want laugh in his face but of, course I couldn't (even if I want to!). An employer doesn't know what/who is an exempt employee?
So I briefly explained it to him. And I said if he wants to delete the word "exempt".
"No but I need a literature for support." No problem... I'll just have to make few mouse clicks and I printed an excerpt for him and his "exempt" employee.
NOW, I am wondering... how many employers are there ( small to medium businesses) who are not aware that there is a New Overtime Rules effective August 23, 2004?
Well, I hope you guys (if you are employees) know whether you are an exempt or non-exempt employee. If you don't, you can talk to your HR.
Godspeed!
